You might ask why all my cat photos are taken in front of the woodstove.

The answer is because Coco and Giorgio parked here in mid-October and won’t leave this 4-foot radius until late March at the earliest.

One of my winter projects is to improve the wood stove heating situation in the house. I think I have devised a plan to shunt hot air to the upstairs via a short duct from the downstairs living room to the landing at the top of the stairs. With the help of some temperature controlled fans intended for A/V cabinets, I should be able to move close to 140 CFM of air. How long it will take to implement is an open question.

My favorite part of winter is the fire crackling in the wood stove, hot coco and stew!

6 Celsius at 6:20 am! That's cold for southern Spain!

I have the bedroom space heater on, and it's fine, but it's times like these I wish I had a fireplace.

And the kitchen and living room are too big to heat effectively with a space heater.

Last winter: 500 gallons of heating oil, 300 gallons of propane, 7 cords of firewood for the stove.

This winter with Vedolux 450: 5 cords of firewood for it and the stove combined.

Next winter with more insulation: aiming for 3 cords of firewood.

The 450 is pretty damn impressive, but its not a perfect solution, and its not for everyone. = work.

All the trees were dead and within 1km oof my front door. I use an electric chainsaw and wood splitter.
