On this day in 1969 Jimi Hendrix took the stage at Woodstock. He gave an iconic performance that included an iteration of the Star Bangled Banner like no other.

Fun facts: they were introduced as the Jimi Hendrix Experience. But Jimi was actually fronting a new band with Mitch Mitchell by a different name. He was also the highest paid performer at the festival.

It was 54 years ago this weekend that the Woodstock Music & Art Fair was held on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. As many know, ticket sales collapsed & it became a free concert when crowds knocked down the fence. I jumped the fence at Woodstock...but I was 46 years too late! When I visited in 2015, the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which now owns the festival site, was closed, so I jumped the fence & wandered around the iconic property.

Woodstock è stato l'evento musicale più importante del XX° secolo.
Doveva avere luogo in tre giorni (15, 16, 17 Agosto) ma si protrasse anche il 18 giorno in cui si esibì Jimi Hendrix.
Il vero protagonista fu la marea di pubblico presente (circa 600 mila).
Fu la risposta dei giovani americani alla politica U.S.A., in quel periodo impegnato in Vietnam.
Intriso da rispetto, empatia e amore che animava quei ragazzi.
Hendrix ha chiuso un evento epocale.
Mai più eguagliabile.
