Atlantic Wave
This was taken on my trip to #Newfoundland in March 2013 when I gave a workshop at the #QuidiVidi along with teaching and demonstrating at the local #Woodturners guild. We had an afternoon of sightseeing, thanks to the hospitality of the Guild's president.

Iconic summer view in #Rondane #Norway. Photo by me some years ago. Next to famous painting by Harald Solberg 1869 – 1935: «Vinternatt i Rondane» 1914. Now to be seen in The National Museum. https://www.nasjonalmuseet.no/en/

@Palaeoboy …along this road… Not many #woodturners around in The Fediverse – arriving like me, from Instagram. You photographers are kindling earlier life endavours. My project some years ago involving vintage, analog cameras and various sorts of film. Same Place, same tripod. Digitized with high solution scanner, shots into a collage. #Woodturners are also #Photographers

Question for the #woodturners out there. Found this in my box of lathe stuff. Can’t figure out what it’s for. Any ideas? #woodworking
There isn't one right answer regarding small vs large lathes - you can turn small items on a large #lathe, but you can't turn larger objects on a small lathe.
But small lathes are portable, and if you are only planning on making small items, the extra capacity of a large lathe would be wasted.
Having a small lathe now doesn't stop you having a large lathe in the future. If you buy a quality small lathe, you'll probably be able to sell it if you wish to buy a larger lathe.
Also, if you need to turn something longer than your lathe, you can always rig up some tailstock arrangement that's not actually mounted to your lathe 🤔
The lathes are easily the quietest of all my woodworking tools - the Jet minilathe is so quiet I've had visitors not realise it was running!
Avoid any lathe which has folded metal body, or square tube bed - they *are* a waste of money! They flex, vibrate, twist, and don't hold any value.
Cast iron bed is the first thing to look for - the mass gives rigidity, accuracy, helps quiet vibration.
Because "small lathe" can mean different things across the world, the picture shows the 3 common lathe types in Australia, from a google for MC-900 (the generic model for the large lathe rebadged by many companies)
The left-hand type - avoid!
The centre type is the "mini lathe" or 'midi lathe", and is a very capable, as well as portable lathe.
The right-hand lathe is most common "first serious lathe" for beginner #woodturners if they have the space.
Any other #woodturners out there that want to talk shop? I'm still pretty new to it, but here's one of my pieces from the summer
