"Fangirling" gets a bad rap. It's way too gendered and limiting for my taste. Everyone gets excited about their favorite things, but "fangirling" ties our excitement to the false narrative of women as overly emotional and silly.

What if we could choose another verb? What would broader experiences could it exude? How would that shift our perception of fandom? What new word do you think we should use?

The term “girls” for women is a way to reduce women to children who need the care, protection, and leadership of men.

I feel the same about the term “Junior Dev.” These engineers are entry-level. They are not children in need of head-patting and babysitting.
