as @RichardJMurphy points out this morning, the wrecking campaign against the public sector, by making working conditions so unwelcoming & badly paid is having a continuing effect, with shortage of , and other key public .

The game plan is clear:
attack the public services via defunding & stressing the workforce;

use to claim money is tight, to reduce real wages;

claim: 'we'd like to run better public services, but we just can't get the staff'!

Here's an interesting take on from Mattias Dahl (Confederation of Swedish Enterprise):

'The worst thing from an employer’s point of view is small & weak unions... This puts stress on a union. That’s when they might try to attract members by burning tires & screaming'.

Sweden has strong sector-wide unions which allow the state, employers & to negotiate on pay, regulations & working conditions with less strife.

Will Starmer's Labour try this road?

If you are an Art Technician (including handlers, fabricators & studio assistants) then you will be wanting to respond to a new survey on your rates of pay.

Only be revealing the full extent of exploitation in the world can it be changed; if we want a more diverse payment is a key issue... and not just for !

Good news on as decide to continue the production of the Electric Mini in Oxford, suggesting all is not lost for the sector in the UK's automative despite fears around market access to the EU.

I'm sure will claim this all his or 's doing, while 'forgetting' that the problems around this decision were related to .

Still, good news especially for the whose jobs now seem secure!

Good & bad news in the :

Good: optimism about the future of is in full effect, with 's full order book offering the town 30yrs of work building submarines.... and as you can see their is on the way up (while they still hope to attract more to the 'longest cul-de-sac in the country).

Bad: unlike Barrow, the rest of the North West is seeing further declines in productivity. For anyone hoping to move away from the , this is not good news.

"America never deindustrialized. It just scaled down its industries in the manufacturing sector of the economy while concentrating industrialization in other parts of the economy—like education... Education is an industry with the same exploitation and disparities of power, privilege, and resources as any other. It has transformed from local, community-based schools to an industry in the same way the retail, service, logistics, legal, healthcare, hospitality, railroad, construction, maritime, agricultural, and other industries have."

Unsurprisingly, as thinks absence from the labour market due to is the major underlying cause of shortages of , the are looking to reform work capability assessments so as to 'encourage' more of the long term sick back into work;

they think this is helping people who aspire to get back to work to find appropriate work, critics see this as a vindictive targeting of the vulnerable.

Given the moral record, I'll leave you to decide which?
