Weak labor laws allow the #coffee giant to avoid contract talks. In an attempt to undermine union efforts in Buffalo, New York, #NLRB says they violated #NLRA hundreds of times. “They are the worst #unionbuster in history, and we will continue to pursue all legal challenges,” said #WorkersUnited spokesperson Melissa Palominos. “In the meantime Starbucks workers continue to successfully #unionize their stores.”

“It’s false that the workers’ movement is separate from the environment movement, it’s been false since the beginning.

“A lot of environmental struggles in the 70s in Italy were inside the factories and were started by the workers.” Those movements fought for better environmental conditions inside the factories, including protesting against asbestos and poor air quality, as well as pushing for higher wages…

“We’ve seen a lot of the hierarchies used in the workplace were useless. They had no use other than dividing us. We’ve been organising our whole lives without bosses. We can manage the factory better than them. Two former shift leaders who were our enemies when we were producing [axle shafts], are now our close allies in the struggle.”

This week Lexington Food Co-op staff voted to join Workers United. The Co-op remained neutral prior to the vote, and have now stated they “are excited to welcome Workers United as a new partner in our workplace.” https://lexington.coop/2022/12/15/union-vote-passes/

WU represents Starbucks staff. Lex is now the first unionized co-op in Western NY and its only unionized natural foods grocer.

For 20 years all my work did was take.

Then the power of organizing made itself known when we had a union drive & the #union lost unfortunately, but right after the vote we got the $2 dollar an hour raise that we’d been fighting for for over 2 years.

Even the THREAT of us banding together got us the raise we should have had 2 years back, imagine if we'd won.

Being polite and bargaining as individuals only got us told to quit if we don’t like it. #solidarity
