In a country that is largely without well-defined job roles, you can be asked to do all the tasks. Respecting your own time is seen as selfish, while dying of overwork is praised by many.

This friend of mine is asked to create an hour by hour, minute by minute work plan by his boss. The expectation is that he should be able to answer what he spent time working on for like 15 minutes. This ultimate level of micromanagement. This has been causing a lot of stress to him and makes him feel that he is incompetent. He spoke with me at length about this last night, he just wanted to vent. I really felt for him.

Pondering why I've become *so* resistant to attending work social events.

I smashed "NO!" on the RSVP for the Christmas party so hard and so fast.

I think it's because:

* I get a stronger sense of human connection from shared project work

* I'm getting old and can't handle the excitement

* I need every minute of my spare time for creative stuff

* I withdrew a bit during the pandemic -- or, rather, became more comfortable being my introverted self
