Guess what? A new possibly very long thread, this time about Athena, my next main #workstation as a successor to Sargo (the current Mac Pro 5,1 setup) based around the #Lenovo #ThinkStation P500. I already bought a low spec P500 and an 18-core #Xeon E5-2699 v3 CPU upgrade; later on I'll get 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory, a so called "Flex M.2 Adapter" for the special Flex slot on the motherboard and maybe an additional GPU alongside my new Radeon Pro W5700 for KVM's and PCI passthrough.

I’m looking for inspirations for a functional work-from-home desk setup and some neat ideas. How your monitors are arranged, what keyboard do you use, etc. Show off your #workstation ! Boosts welcome. 🙂

Is the #AMD #Threadripper of today as stable and reliable as most #Workstation #CPUs are expected to be, or are they the type of #CPU you're meant to replace in less than a decade like consumer & #Prosumer chips?

And whilst I can understand them doing cheap stuff on a €200 #IdeaPad and even cheap E/L/T-Series devices that are spec'd for a starting price tag like €499-€999 incl. €140 #Windows #tax, I don't accept that on a maxed-out mobile #workstation (P-Series) that costed €5k in the config I used!

Setting up a clean #Fedora 38 Workstation installation in a VM as I want to update a bit of information in one of my guides, I had forgotten that #Workstation has such a nice system update UI in place, as updates work so differently under #Silverblue, which is what I've been using on all my devices for maybe 6 months now. It's definitely nicer to not even need such a UI thanks to how Silverblue works, but still, nice to be reminded of how deep Fedora's attention to detail goes :).
