Seen at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art in 2020 (they have a rotating display of pages).

Follow up to previous #WorldGiraffeDay post: was reminded of this other #AncientRoman #giraffe art in the Nile mosaic of Palestrina, c. 100 BCE. So that's two...any others prior to the Lod mosaic and the later Byzantine mosaics??

A tower of giraffes 🦒, g is for giraffe and a lone giraffe for #WorldGiraffeDay! Such an apt #termOfVenery for the world’s tallest animal, celebrated on the longest day (in the northern hemisphere - or night in the southern). There are estimated to be only 117,000 remaining in the wild so #conservation efforts are needed to ensure they survive and thrive in the future.
