Got recently acquainted with an excellent series of classic literature books, printed by Reader’s Digest and titled “World's Best Reading”. My inner collector got really excited and looks towards building a small collection.

I'm rereading Edith Grossman's lovely 2011 book about literary translation, WHY TRANSLATION MATTERS.

I love her discussion about the way people often talk about how a certain author in one country influenced a bunch of authors in other countries, but seldom mention the extent to which translation is what makes the whole concept of World Literature possible.

The book is short (about 150 pages), clear, and very much worthwhile.

#Introduction:

I teach #WorldLiterature and #composition at a public college in the southeastern US. My current work examines how #comics artists from #WestAfrica and #CentralAfrica navigate #print and #digital realms in their work, and I’ve researched comics in #Senegal in particular. I also have a book from 2014 about portrayals of migration in #Senegalese texts.
