I just learned that March 21 (yesterday)’s .
S/o to Amanda Gorman for that incredible poem recited during Biden’s inauguration. And props to Gwendolyn Brooks for being the only person that’s convinced me to read a multi-page poem.

Are the stars up in the sky
Lights put there to inform us?
If so their electric bill
Must be fucking enormous.

It's an / combo! Lately I've been drawn to poetry as a puzzle delivery mechanism. This one could use a second draft, but I like it.

The prompt for day 21 is HALVE, and this poem may not be missing an entire half, but it is missing the most important part...

The Dearest Treasure Is a ___

Mortality is not the only devil that plays ___
But it’s one thing that even royal heritage can’t ___

A princess was the favorite of her mother, the ___ ___
When told she had a brother, she created a ___ ___

He claimed dominion of the throne and tapped the dotted ___
He needed her approval, but the princess would not ___

She asked the man, Where were you when my mother was ___
A true brother would watch me grow and help me learn to ___

The scoundrel nearly got his prize, but he had not ______
A handmaid knew he was the one who murdered the ___ ___

With her help, the princess threw the traitor out the ___
Her treasure helped her rule the land in peace forever ___

In honor of , here's a photo of my bicycle at Stevenson House in downtown , taken on a sunny day in February 2010.

Today one of my brothers was lamenting , and I automatically responded by reciting to him a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, "Bed in Summer." (An excerpt: "In winter when the moon is bright, I dress by yellow candlelight. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day.")

Grateful to our mom for reading "A Child's Garden of Verses" and other poetry to us. I treasure the old book she held when she first introduced us to Stevenson— "The Child's World: Volume 1, Stories of Childhood" (Chicago: The Child's World, Inc, 1954)—which included many other favorite poets too, e.g., Christina Georgina Rossetti and Rose Fyleman.

It’s the 22nd here, but still the 21st somewhere in the world…

Come

to Look and never see
the boiling trick
surrounds us Slowly Now
with tippy-toe
chilled whispers shout Alarm
They walk asleep
upstream The river grows
unsettled Mass
of untrue victories
demanding feal-
ty A sunset drinking
game where we lose
HOWL afire Typing
into this void
