Back to some space history neepery, hmm? I've previously spoken of the 1964 World's Fair in New York City as a last gasp of 20th century techno-optimism, and this is a little bit more from it. It's art of the Hall of Science's "movie hall", showing a Martin Marietta station and spaceship. It was printed in the Souvenir Book of the fair.

The Trylon and Perisphere were collectively (and are even now) the symbol of the New York World's Fair in 1939, the last gasp of interwar optimism about the future. Less well-known is that inside the sphere was a diorama of "Democracity" a prospective city in said future.

I think this is one of my favorite pics I've taken. #SilverBorder sets are among my favorite sets. It emphasizes goofy fun over the "I Need To Win" aspect of the game.
Also my dad was at the #WorldsFair in #Seattle and I happen to have stumbled upon a #Spaceneedle souvenir from it. It's a really cool piece of history to have and the colors are really cool.

A gift from Henry Phipps, Jr. to the city of #Pittsburgh, Henry was a #ChildhoodFriend & #BusinessPartner of Andrew #Carnegie.
The #CrystalPalace inspired the 14-room #Glasshouse at the Phipps.
As the #Chicago #WorldsFair ended, the #Plant material was auctioned: 8,000+ #Plants went to the Phipps.
In 2018, the Phipps celebrated their 125th #Anniversary. There are 23 #Gardens over 15 #Acres.

Here the #AVs are, in their super-slow herky-jerky around the track. I think the #WorldsFair might’ve been the first time I’d ever heard of #AutonomousVehicles. As it turns out, the real #Transportation revolution was the #maglev commuter train I’d taken on the way there. I wish that had captured our imaginations with 10% the enthusiasm! 2/
