It's very disconcerting to turn towards a street and find it's a river, or canal, or leet. Beautiful, though.

The river at Warrandyte
If you've been brought up among the broad leaf trees of Europe, the grey-green of Australian gum trees can be a bit challenging to mix at first. I think this is a pretty good effort!

This was an experiment with watercolor crayons and water soluble pen. It's drawn from memory, showing a portion of the coast near #SkaraBrae.

I intended a lovely summery feel, but what I got looks like a Seventies thriller cover. All it lacks is a girl with masses of hair running away!

Every now and again, I want to paint but have difficult job finding somewhere where I can see what is interesting. I only really had a view of this window ..

This is also from a photo I took at "Tutankhamen: His Tomb and Treasures" some years ago. I had to stand to one side so my reflection didn't confuse the picture, so it's slightly skewed. But this shows what practice will do - a year ago, I wouldn't have attempted something like this!
I've used a bit of body colour so the light blue and light red are closer to right, but I tried to reserve white paper for highlights.

I don't often do people, and I don't often work from someone else's photo. But the figure is me, painting at the Convento del Carmine during a course at The Watermill at Posara, and the photo was taken by our tutor Mike Willdridge. So I had my paintings and memories to work from, as well!

I took the photo I painted this from at the exhibition "Tutankhamen: His Tomb and Treasures", some years ago, and it formed part of the inspiration for my lockdown project, #AmarnaRoyalFamily .

Two bracelets inspired by ancient Egyptian ones. This is a sneak peak at some of the painting I'm doing as marginalia for the book I plan to do about the Dreams of Amarna embroideries.

One of these days I might be able to match the power of a Joseph Wright of Derby, but for now I can at least say I have an eye for his type of subject!

This is a coastal village in Portugal. I got slightly lost in the pattern of roofs and walls, so it has ended up verging on abstract. I think of myself as a representational painter, but occasionally a painting has other ideas!
