@publius The UART is in the cartridge, connected to the Megadrive parallel bus. The Tx/Rx lines are connected to an ESP8266, so the MegaCD cannot interact with them, only with the parallel bus. My first theory was that maybe there was noise/reflections on the #WR line, causing it to toggle twice on a single write cycle, causing two writes. But the oscilloscope screenshots show this is not the case. So I'm out of clues.

Yellow line: UART Tx (also decoded below on green), cyan: #WR, magenta: #CE. So, it's clear a single write to the UART sometimes is triggering two transmissions. And I still cannot figure out why. And this being triggered only when MegaCD is attached but AC adapter not connected, makes it even more weird.

Write cycles don't look bad at all (yellow is #WR, blue is #CE). So I'm out of clues. Maybe UART is somehow misconfigured and ends outputting bytes twice?
