Comics-based detective Dick Tracy began using a 2-Way Wrist Radio in January, 1946. The radio's broadcast range was upgraded from 500 miles to 1,000 miles in June 1954, then to 2,500 miles in 1956. It was ultimately replaced by the 2-Way Wrist TV in 1964, but has since made occasional comebacks in the comic strip, which continues to run uninterrupted in United States newspapers since its debut in October 1931.
