I am scanning changes suggested by an editing service and I can’t believe how hard I disagree.
I have a character, Ray Olsen. What’s special about him is that he used to be a bodyguard. Now he's step dad. My teenage character knew him as Olsen when he was a bodyguard. Now he has to get used to calling him Ray and he doesn’t like it. It's a whole thing.
Editor suggests I just refer to him as Ray, and —no. It doesn’t work. It's a really bad suggestion. What do you think, #writersonfediverse?
