Wandering through bookshops to buy a few Christmas presents I saw #TheTrees by #PercivalEverett featuring on the #bestseller lists. I was so disappointed in that book. *Loved* the opening chapters when it was shaping up to be a sharp, witty #policeprocedural with a cold eye on #Mississippi's and #USA's lynchings (wake-up line: "I see all #policeshootings as lynchings") but then it went all artsy and #magicalrealism and #losttheplot.
