Thinking about rejection and the power it brings. I'm empowered by all the people who didn't want my work. Because I didn't want them either. All I wanted was myself.

Also, golden nails 💅✨

I'm writing my novel by hand because it's such a freeing experience. I will never stop banging on about this because it really has changed everything. It’s hard to explain how liberating it has been. I sit here with my $2 A4 notebook and my bright yellow Lamy pen, and I write. I let the words spew out. I don’t worry about whether they sound amazing. I don’t agonise over how the sentences are fitting together, I just write. I'm about 50k words in and it's so amazing to have this tactile object I can touch, run my fingers over, feel my own scribbles. 💛

Thoughts about creating: I really really wish someone had told me it's okay to be slow. That there's no hurry. No timeframe in which I must dream up my novel, write my novel, edit my novel, find a home for my novel. Slowness is magical. And it's NICE too. It's nice to sit with the process, to bask in, to be inside it, to feel it!

But for so long (years) I had this quite mad idea that I had to go quickly, push out a novel, get it published straight away to be successful. I had something to prove! To who? I don't know! But still. Still, I *had* to do it.

Well. There is so much peace to be found in taking things slowly. In allowing myself space to think and dream and scribble and rewrite and stop and stare. I don't have anything to prove to anyone. All I want to do is make art and enjoy it. That's it.

🥰💫

@wion Yes - I think handwriting a novel is something that needs to be built up to... muscle-wise. There are sections of my notes that have required a bit of deciphering, I suspect everyone's handwriting is messy - if they're writing fast enough (and I find I do need to write fast, to get all the ideas onto paper before I lose them.

There are a few interesting articles about and how it benefits the creative process

Yesterday I finished re-reading a story I wrote in June/July last year, and edited in December last year, and you know what - it's actually really, really good. 😲

I wrote the first draft by hand, and it was such a painfully slow process, and I hated it so much - but you know what? If it means I only do a handful of edits to get the story right, rather than several dozen, maybe it's actually worth it!!?
