I lately figured out I can write way better in an environment with limitations.

For example, there's a café near me that has great coffee but no wifi. Additionally, they only offer two hours of free parking. Surprisingly, these limitations have actually helped me channel all my energy and complete tasks that used to take me over four hours."

It’s been said before, but more people should read short stories. There’s so much incredible literary work that people are missing simply because short stories don’t enjoy the same cultural cache that books do. I know reading in general has declined, and there are a lot of socioeconomic reasons for that. But you can read a short story in a fraction of the time and still come away with profound, emotional, intellectual, and irreverent reading experiences.

Writers! Just because some words have multiple different meanings does not mean you should use those other meanings!

While technically the sentence "She rapped the door" is correct and it simply means she struck the door rapidly...you had to pick that word?

I understand what homophones are but I think we can all agree that some words mean one thing and one thing only.

Help me decide what to work on...

✅Choice 1: unpack the suitcases in the corner of my room that have been waiting accusingly for 2 weeks (don't judge me).

✅Choice 2: #Write, prolly a new story idea I got in the last few days bc 🧠 is like that but also I accidentally shipped my manuscript via surface mail (don't judge me).

I sat down to journal in order to figure out the next plot point in my novel, but it turned into a pep-talk to justify to myself why it’s OK not to know what the hell my next plot point is

my favorite part of editing is the redline time. The basic draft is done enough to print out a physical copy. For me it's an entirely different perspective reaing on paper vs on screen. It's also a milestone of having the basic first draft done "enough". A long way to go, but feels like progress #writingcommity

Anytime you see one if those open questions about your WIP, try to answer it with something enticing about, so you answer the question but leave some intrigue.

I needed an elevator pitch to get my preciously published story onto the pile. And my practice of answering those questions as a teaser honed my pitching skill so i made it thru the door.

The work still has to stand, but now it gets the chance.

So I've read that the optimal chapter length for a novel is 3-4k words. Is that still the case for short novels? Info on how chapter length should change according to the size of the work seems to be lacking in a lot of writing blogs.
