When I sat down to write my first story over seven years ago, I never imagined people would compare my books to JRR Tolkien. #WritersCoffeeClub 9/12. If you write novels, would you consider a short story?
I write both.
I love writing both. Each have unique challenges, and it's fun to switch up between them.
Even better, having short stories to give away to readers of my series is a great marketing idea.
The trick with short stories is to focus on a small story, even if it has a big impact. And for me, that's great fun.

#WritersCoffeeClub 12/9. If you write novels, would you consider a short story?
I’ve done both. I’ve been unsuccessful selling my short stories & I wonder if this is because I feel more comfortable with the longer form? It’s odd because I was quite at home writing short articles (many of them 1200–1800 words) in my non-fiction career. Even won a few awards for them, most recently one under 1400 words.

12. If you write novels, would you consider a short story, and vice versa?
I often write so-called flash fiction, extremely short works of just a few hundred words. I occasionally include these as special bonuses in my newsletter, or on the blog.
