"Thread" here is fraught with expectations that may not be met ... Regardless, the only time you'd need sub-second time accuracy in the field is if U are doing a #digimode from the #WSJT suite (RTTY & other legacy data modes don't care) so U have *some* sort of computer & if U don't have TCP/IP, you can always pull from the sky. Looks like a GPS dongle is only about US$35 (probably less - that was in the first 5 google responses).
Finally got #WSJT speaking to my radio. With dummy load tried my first #FT8 (test). It’s transmitting. It’s now a matter of dialing everything in.

Spent a few minutes with #chatgpt on how to find out if/how I can initiate a call in #Gridtracker (same as double-clicking in the #WSJT-X Band Acitvity window). It gave me six wrong answers, before admitting there's only one way which is choosing Lookup, and ctrl-c/v the callsign into WSJT-X.

Funny thing just happened on #hamradio. I was on #JS8CALL, exited, and restarted #WSJT-X. I didn't check the frequency, but I was still on 7078 kHz, instead of 7074 kHZ (the regular #ft frequency), and wondered why there's no activity, when suddenly there was a CQ from LU1ZV. Yes, from Antarctica. QSO complete, RSTR/S -04/-01.
So check out some other frequencies; you never know who's out there.

Das (mögliche) Problem mit WSJT-X, GridTracker und Log4OM.

Some bizarre #FT8 behavior, and it's software side. 30m through 10m tune and operate fine, but when I get to 40m, the output jumps to a very wide bandwidth, almost like it's operating in AM (it's not). Then the software will terminate the connection to the radio and the radio will be stuck in transmit (I'll have to press the "transmit" button to stop transmitting). When I tune, using the "tune" function in #WSJT-X, instead of a clear tone I will see blips and spurious inputs. ONLY on 40m.
