German units of the Bavarian #Alpenkorps on the #ww1Dolomitifront. They were formations used in October 1915 to assist the Austro-Hungarian defences. They provided support and tactical advice, but never intervened in combat as Italy and Germany did not declare war until 1916

a photographic #ww1exhibition of the #Alpino Ettore Martini of Siena, in the State Archive. Martini created the starting path on the ledge below Mount #Lagazuoi, #ww1Dolomitifront The ledge is still partially practicable today.
