Saddened to hear about the passing of Chicago DJ Lin Brehmer. For a musician who learned by playing along with radio, and generally influenced by radio, he spun lots of records that are in my music. XRT is a part of my music education. #wxrt

@KeithAmmann I only listened to him going to work every morning for so very long #WXRT. Met him in passing once and he was nothing but gracious and kind. RIP Lin indeed.

I’m so sad at the passing of #WXRT Chicago morning DJ Lin Brehmer. His voice was part of my morning commute for about a decade - then when I switched to a home office, I sometimes listened via streaming audio *because I could.*

Summer 1989. I was interning at #WXRT under #LinBrehmer. Suffice it to say, there's a nonzero chance that I was the worst intern he ever had. Certainly in the bottom five.

Anyway, on my way out the door for the last time, he handed me a copy of Workbook by Bob Mould. Insisted that I take it.

Maybe he thought it would enlighten me or something? Challenge my priors? Elicit some humility?

Whatever he meant by it … well, it took a while, but I think it worked.

Every morning in my 20s the alarm was set to WXRT and Lin Brehmer telling us “it’s great to be alive” before playing some Queen or Talking Heads. His passion for the Chicago Cubs was unmatched no matter how bad the season. Such a shame.

Legendary Chicago radio host, Lin Brehmer, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

In #Chicago, there is a radio station 93.1 #WXRT..."Chicago's Finest Rock". They are #Beatles, #REM, #Nirvana, etc...not pop 40. (I'm not judging, just giving the facts.) My go-to local station. They had a DJ named Lin Brehmer that was equal parts artist, good person, and music fan. If you have the interest, try to find some of his audio and give a listen - particularly "Lin's Bin" Then pour a drink, because he's lost his battle with cancer this weekend. #lin #music

Words can't describe the feeling of loss when someone that was part of a regular routine, but not someone I personally knew, is suddenly gone. I think the last time I experienced this feeling was when Alex Trebek passed away.
