It would be hard to find pictures that are more atmospheric (in a Romantic, Victorian way) than the cathedral paintings of Sir Wyke Bayliss (English, 1835-1906). He was endlessly entranced by the interiors of ancient churches and cathedrals in Britain and on the Continent. In his era, he was respected as an artist, art critic, and minor poet and served for many years as president of the Royal Society of British Artists.
