@anniethebruce yeah...
Basically it's been turned into some commercial product.
Amd whilst they can't opensource or share the BASIC & KERNAL they could at least not go out of theor way to prevent others from iterating upon it and buy that ROM through them legitimately.
The #CommanderX16 / #X16 thus is more a toy for #C64 & #C128 fans that want something they can easily hook up to a modern TV.
THE #RC2014 in comparison looks like an open architecture.beyond the ability to make expansion cards.

And I think that would be really funny to see:
#NeoFloppy on the #X16 / #CommanderX16...

OFC they won't officially support #HDMI due to #licensing and #cost as well as the added complexity.
Personally, I would've scrapped the idea of making an HDMI-outputing "video card" to save costs and instead make a deal with some OEM to certify compatibility with an #VGA->HDMI dongle which gets powered by the PS/2 port and have it #CommanderX16 / #X16 branded...
Cuz that'll be a cheap-to-make accessory just like #RGB - #SCART cords for 6th & 7th gen consoles were...

Continued evaluation of #commander #x16. I found great apps to significantly improve initial (BASIC) experience with the platform. I also helped the author to fix one of them to work with the latest emulator. One of these apps is BASLOAD (https://github.com/stefan-b-jakobsson/basload) which loads ASCII based BASIC program without line numbers and labeled GOTO expressions into tokenized program, second is the editor (https://github.com/stefan-b-jakobsson/x16-edit) that helps you write ASCII programs on the platform without the need of PC
Commander #x16 is close to be released as I heard. Not that this is easy to believe, but I gave the emulator another shot and I also checked the work already done by the community. Impressive how vivid it still is, considering it takes ages to 8bit guy to realize his vision. #c64
These days we have computer systems which are so overly complex that a single person has no chance to understand or even control them entirely. Instead, we let them control us.
This makes projects like the Commander X16 so important.

Finally got around to watching the video for the 8-bit guy's new 8 bit computer work in progress.
It is ambitious, and it will take a lot of work to pull it off, but it seems like a pretty solid box.
With the right supporting software, he's about 75% of the way to what I would want as a minimum computer for daily use.
Anyway, the Commander #X16 project looks like it'll be neat.
