Applied new thermal paste to my #x220 early this morning. I wasn't nearly as difficult as I initially thought!

#Openbsd is running roughly 4-5 degrees cooler now on heavier tasks, and sits around 40C at idle.

Gerade mit dem #Fahrrad nach #Ettlingen in den#afbShop geradelt und mal als Ersatz für mein altes #Thinkpad #x220 ein #x270 besorgt. Das muss dann wohl später erst getestet und eingerichtet werden :)

Re-did thermal paste on my ThinkPad #x220 over the weekend. Everything went smoothly and now it works so well. Made me realize how far we've drifted away from user-repairable electronics!

Bin gerade richtig happy mit #Ubuntu auf meinem alten #x220 Thinkpad.
Gut, der neue (Sn)Appstore ist so dermaßen verbuggt und im Kampf mit den anderen Software-Katalogen in Ubuntu, dass es nicht mehr schön ist, aber sonst macht es echt Laune.
Wenn ich irgendwo jammern will, dass Software nicht funzt, fällt mir wieder ein, dass das alles kostenlos und mit so viel Herzblut gestrickt ist.

Bei allen Sachen die funktionieren und die vllt auch noch angenehmer laufen als unter Windows, ästhetischer sind als Win und das hässliche MacOS zusammen, freue ich mich zum Ausgleich um so mehr. Utopien als Betriebssystem. Abgefahren. Wie Mastodon: Ausblick in „was sein kann“ mit jeder Menge DIY-Charme und Potential.

I am going to start posting about mods that make to my stuff. Starting by that time I upgraded my thinkpad x220 to a fullhd ips display using the nitrocaster adapter board which I soldered myself, and a coreboot patch to remove the ghost display and enable brightness control. I still have this laptop and I use it every time I need a portable linux machine. Fun times! #thinkpad #x220 #linux

#Coreboot has been sort of an amazing transformation of my #Lenovo #X220 So many talk about the getting rid of spyware and such from #Intel, bit the real benefit is that I can now install RAM and a new wireless card. Not to mention, the boot time is like 15-20 seconds....

Tiny bit esoteric even by #Linux standards, but if you do need it then you'll be _really_ happy to find out about it... if you have an old-ish #Thinkpad (mine is an #X220, but I believe it applies to several from that era) and the network card has started to randomly disappear regularly, I have the fix without requiring a full reboot:
$ echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00.0/remove # replace 000::03:00 with your device ID here
$ sleep 10
$ echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/rescan
