🔍 On inspecting the board, I see a burnt-up SMD called "C588", which I'm assuming is a capacitor

📖 No circuit diagram for my motherboard (#Thinkpad #X230T) but the diagram for a similar(ish) model (#X230, the non-tablet version) seems to say C588 is part of the voltage regulation circuit, in parallel with a couple of other capacitors

@arcade In terms of what you can buy right now, @frameworkcomputer is by far the best option, even if I find it to be a #Downgrade compared to my #X230 as it lacks a toolfree swappable battery...

Something that I for myself declare as non-negotiable for a multitude of reasons...

For the #Thinkpad crowd, my #X230 6 cell battery was down to 70% life and not getting me a lot of mobile time. I couldn’t find a good OEM replacement so I ordered a 9 cell KingSener battery from their store on AliExpress.

I can’t speak to longevity but the case seems solid and fits more solidly than my OEM battery did. Battery life is great so far even with a 80/90% charge limit to keep the battery healthy.

My beloved little laptop lives on a bit longer...

@paul propably because #Apple refuses to integrate proper #Pen support in their #Laptops and people have neither the time nor patience to #Hackintosh an outdated #ThinkPad #X230 #Tablet.

Also there are sadly no new #ModBook|s on the market and carrying around another #Wacom tablet on top of a #MacBook is even bulkier than the biggest #iPadPro...

I actually run #Debian on my #X230 and #T420 ThinkPads and on my #E73 #ThinkCentre workstation :P

I ran #Arch from 2006 to 2009 I think, and then on and off until settling with Debian around 2012 I think.

Had a #MacBook Pro Mid 2010 before the #ThinkPads. Ran #Mandriva and then Debian on it.

It’s 2023 and the #x230 is still one of my favorite laptops ever built and with a FHD mod and USB-C charging there’s not much I miss in comparison to modern laptops. What I like most about it is it’s repairability; over the years I did many upgrades, even replaced its speakers. However, the options to upgrade the CPU are fairly limited. What I’d love to see at some point are drop-in replacement mainboards for older laptops with more modern specs.
