So by pure chance my #Xenonauts squad had two soldiers called Marina who were both from East Germany. I thought it was quite an amusing coincidence.

Unfortunately on a UFO raid mission in Mali, Cpt. Marina Schwarz was ambushed when scouting out a far flank. A plasma projectile struck her in the back and killed her immediately.

Her service to humanity will not be forgotten. She is survived by her twin in name, Maj. Marina Lang.

My upgraded laser machine gun in #Xenonauts is pretty handy. It's not only a weapon, it is also quite a capable demolition tool now.

Walls are only in your way if you let them be.

Had my first alien raid on my base in #Xenonauts today. I'ts pretty cool that the map actually reflects the base you built over the course of the game.

You also get to control EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER stationed at the base at once, instead of only 8. There wasn't enough high grade equipment for everyone, but nonetheless they swept through the base like a swarm of angry bees. It was quite a massacre.

RIP Marta Zaytseva, the sole casualty of the raid. She got caught in a big plasma salvo.

I'm kinda falling a little bit in love with how many things in #Xenonauts are destructible. There's some trees in the way blocking your view of the UFO? Just shoot them with a machine gun :blobcattea:.

Today I learned about #Xenonauts 's fire propagation the hard way.

When I was about to breach a UFO, I worried the aliens inside might open the door prematurely and take shots at my squad, so I dropped a smoke grenade right at the entrance for a little protection.

Little did I know that smoke grenades had a chance of starting a small fire on the hay I dropped it on. The fire kept spreading every turn and I had to abandon my plans and get everyone away for a good ten turns or so.

Took me quite long to learn, that all your soldiers should crouch when shooting for better hits. No surprise that I struggled so much before :scaredycat:

I started toying around with the loadouts of my soldiers a bit. Got a dedicated gas grenade launcher guy, to put entire UFO rooms to sleep. Too bad the first time I wanted to try it, everyone already died.

Still, I really like being able to design my own combat roles, and not being forced to preset ones, like in #XCOM

Been giving #Xenonauts another try today. Never had enough patience for it in the past, but today I think it clicked a little bit for me. Turns out I was too stuck in new XCOM thinking.

I like how fragile each soldier feels, which requires tactics, that exploit your strength in numbers. The time unit system encourages to take more shots, even at low hit chance.

Shoutout to my breacher 🇫🇮 Kasper, he tanked two plasma shots point blank and still fragged the last alien while bleeding out.

If like me you loved the 90s #XCom games and found the reboots a bit flat, #Xenonauts is the game for you. Recreates the original, makes sensible additions, doesn't break anything.

Be sure to play community edition, available in the betas menu in steam. Lot of bug fixes, dev-approved.
