Re: Logic Syllabus ( inquiryintoinquiry.com/logic-s )
Re: Laws of Form ( groups.io/g/lawsofform/topic/l )
❝_❞ John Mingers ( groups.io/g/lawsofform/message )

❝In a previous post you mentioned the minimal negation operator. Is there also the converse of this, i.e. an operator which is true when exactly one of its arguments is true? Or is this just XOR?❞

Yes, the “just one true” operator is a very handy tool. We discussed it earlier under the headings of “genus and species relations” or “radio button logic”. Viewed as a venn diagram it describes a partition of the universe of discourse into mutually exclusive and exhaustive regions.

Reading \(\texttt{(} x_1 \texttt{,} \ldots \texttt{,} x_m \texttt{)}\) to mean just one of \(x_1, \ldots, x_m\) is false, the form \(\texttt{((} x_1 \texttt{),} \ldots \texttt{,(} x_m \texttt{))}\) means just one of \(x_1, \ldots, x_m\) is true.

For two logical variables, though, the cases “condense” or “degenerate” and saying “just one true” is the same thing as saying “just one false”.

\[\texttt{((} x_1 \texttt{),(} x_2 \texttt{))} = \texttt{(} x_1 \texttt{,} x_2 \texttt{)} = x_1 + x_2 = \textsc{xor} (x_1, x_2).\]

Basically, since RC4 is a stream cipher, it outputs a byte at a time, and XORs that with the plaintext to get the ciphertext. Since XOR is Associative (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XOR_swap) you can also XOR the ciphertext with the plaintext to get the output of the RC4 function. You can then simply try keys until you get the correct keystream output.

Seems for doesn't have an exclusive or numeric operator?? This makes implementing harder than necessary, needing inline for at least some of it:
```
Function XOR.b{x.b, y.b}
GetReg d0, x.b
GetReg d1, y.b
eor.b d1, d0
PutReg d0, z.b
Function Return z.b
EndFunction
```
(untested)

sunshine2k.de/articles/coding/ links to users.ece.cmu.edu/~koopman/ros which claims 0xA6 is a good 8-bit CRC polynomial for large input lengths, though it seems that is the most significant 8 bits (instead of the least significant 8 bits), with implicit trailing 1 (instead of implicit leading 1), to make it compatible with the first article I think I need rotate the byte 1 bit to give 0x4D.
