Minor news from my #FreeBSD #Linuxulator userland project: I now succeeded to build a first "dependency monster" (in order to have all features consumers might expect): #cairo. Among other things, required porting all the #Xorg libs first 😉

I created a blog post last night about why I switched back to #BSPWM and #XOrg away from #wayland .

Not that I don't think #Floppinux is bad - far from it.
But considering that #TinyCore #Linux can do 17 MB apparently with default userland and 23 MB with #Xorg + #Desktop I do want to get things to just work without being able to at least have #IPv4 #Ethernet working and being able to mount #SMB shares or at least #SSH into things using #Dropbear.

For the first time I'm not happy with a #Debian upgrade.
#Wayland & #KDE on an upgraded system is way too unstable. If I switch back to #Xorg then it's more stable but #Firefox won't start anymore since having started it with Wayland.
There are other paper-cuts too with things not working. Shame, every other upgrade since Woody has done very well.
On a new install it doesn't seem as bad - so probably just old config causing problems...

Random note about #WMClass in #xorg: I'm trying out a binary of the Pulse Browser from their site, but it doesn't come with a .desktop file. Rather than edit the Firefox one, I'm using one from the Arch AUR.
It's great, except when I save a launcher in my panel the resulting window opens separately (hard to explain, I use icon-only launchers and end up with two icons). This is because the .desktop file has "StartupWMClass=pulse-browser" but the binary doesn't.
I have a #Kubuntu machine I've been using for around a year and a half, and recently it has started booting up to a blank screen. I cannot get it to show anything by moving the mouse, hitting keys, or anything like that. It's just blank. Once I drop to a TTY and forcefully kill X it restarts and behaves as it should. I'm not sure how I should go about diagnosing or fixing this.
Any advice?
