On the left, Prof. Salditt explains the setup and the measurement scheme. In the bottom part, left of the yellow knob, is the sample tower; slightly left from the centre, parts of the #detector (blue camera labelled “PCO”) are visible; towards the rear, a big evacuated flight tube help the #XRays to reach the second detector bench.

I am here analysing samples in the hunt for #fire events. Key steps are Sr maps so we can build precise chronologies in our annually laminated samples, and maps of metals, because they're not always distributed evenly across growth layers. Ein Forschungsteam [#Forschung #Physik #Optik] der #Universität #Göttingen hat ein neues Verfahren für Röntgenfarbaufnahmen [#Röntgen #Xray #Xrays] entwickelt. Um nicht nur die chemischen #Elemente einer Probe durch Röntgenfluoreszenzanalyse [#Fluoreszenz #XRF] zu bestimmen, sondern auch deren räumliche Verteilung, muss bislang die genutzte #Röntgenstrahlung fokussiert und die Probe aufwendig abgerastert werden.

#TodayInHistory Wilhelm Röntgen publishes his paper detailing the discovery of a new type of radiation in 1895, which would be called as X-Rays. One of the major landmarks in medical science, for which he got the first ever Nobel in Physics in 1901.
