#xmpp represented by the #xsf foundation attended today a workshop for interoperability between all messaging services including whatsapp and facebook messenger.
All thanks to an eu law that will come into effect soon. Excited to see #xmpp being at the front on innovation.

@frox Wrt steering #XMPP by means of #XSF versus steering of #ActivityPub development I can say that we have something similar, though less well-oiled, less formal (totally grassroots, really).
That is the #SocialHub developer community at https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks and the #Fediverse Enhancement Proposal process, the #FEP.

This process is becoming more active now. Just finalized a FEP on AP Group support.

Isn't that making the #fediverse vulnerable to some sort of hostile takeover?
Having people developing different AP software need to figure out how all other AP software works seems really cumbersome, and prone to breaking. We can see that with #mastodon, #peertube and #lemmy. The communication between them is far from seamless, although I have to acknowledge the great work of all devs involved.
It just seems kind of messy to me, isn't the #xmpp + #xsf model better?

This got me thinking, mastodon is the big player in the field. So who decides on the implementation details of activitypub within mastodon, the devs or the lead dev?
If that's the case it seems kind of fragile. A person or a group could come and totally change mastodon's AP implementation, and interop with other AP software
