Here I describe how I use @jessegrosjean’s excellent Bike outlining software for macOS to streamline my scientific refereeing process. I also show how to convert Bike outlines to idiomatic HTML (using XSLT 2.0) and thus Markdown (via Pandoc).

Hurrah for XSLT and stubborness! I figured out for one of our regular XSLT generated reports for manuscripts on the Chymistry of Isaac Newton project how to make it calculate the terminus post quem based on verified citations (citations we're sure we know the source) and verified plus high likelihood citations (we're pretty damn sure about the source). And to print which sources the dating is based off of. #XSLT #DH #XML #TEI #Newton #Chymistry #HistSci

Mit der Simpson-Regel numerisch zu integrieren, ist kein Problem. Habe ich ganz früh in BASIC, später in JS programmiert.

Für #XSLT mit #SaxonJS lief mein Ansatz über xsl:call-template bereits bei n=3000 in zu viele Rekursionen. Dann an einer Funktion getüftelt. Klappt soweit. ✅

Technologies I hopefully get to learn this year: elixir/Phoenix, XSLT and Common Lisp(both of which I fucked with in the past, but forgot everything about).

The getting old gap is real. It’s easy to confuse remembering being good at something and uh… being any kind of good at something.

Tried to get some xslt going after reading on the use of xpath in htmx and abysmally failed. Common Lisp at least I can weasel my way around in.

It is not weakening my instinct that what they really want is to be working in #XML—with #XPath and #XSLT and #XSD—and not in JSON.

I just remembered* somebody around 2005 mansplaining to me that it is wrong to detect #JSSS support with #JS because that will fail when JS is #disabled**. 🤭

* I saw a mention of #XSLT which naturally reminded me of #DSSSL which supernaturally reminded me of JSSS. Welcome to my brain.

** More developers need to understand the social model of JS.

Wenn man #XSLT nach #SaxonJS kompiliert, dann vermeidet die Option -ns:##html5 die Ausgabe von Namespaces an jedem einzelnen #SVG- und #MathML-Element nicht. https://saxonica.plan.io/issues/5974

All this is an example of stuff I learn while assisting students on projects--they didn't really need the XSLT to be bundled into the python script, but it was a good opportunity for me to learn how to do it, at last! #python #xslt #saxonica #saxonc

Pipeline concluded: Afterwards must clean up new spaCy mess b/c the autotagging matches over its own tags--gross! Regex could clean this up but XSLT is better b/c simpler: reads element nodes natively, thank you very much! So we run XSLT (in Python). Yay for a pipeline roundtrip!
