I've spent the last couple days thinking about the fact that I completely failed to understand the reveal that Mother Righteous is the heart Sinister when I read Legion of X a couple weeks ago. Like, it's funny how keyed I was to expect specific color coding (a red heart on a white forehead) that the inverse just completely bypassed me. Glad I got that sorted before I read Nightcrawlers today. #xmen #xspoilers

In comics news - “Storm and the Brotherhood of Mutants” launches today, further exploring the dystopian future we saw begin in “Sins of Sinister.” Storm leads the resistance against Sinister and his corrupted X-Men, as this title temporarily replaces “X-Men: Red” on the stands. What I'm loving about comics these days is what feels like an openness to shaking up the status quo because the villains have a point. Historically, you'd have the bad guys take over the world, and everyone was worse off. Nowadays you'll see the protagonists question whether what they've been upholding was ever just and if there's a need for something else. A concession. An admission of wrongdoing. An embassy to a hell dimension!

Sins of Sinister is a darkly comic take on that most X-Men of tropes, the dystopian alt-future, and builds seamlessly on what’s come before in the Krakoa era. Under Gillen’s pen Mr. Sinister is the kind of over-the-top villain that you can’t help but enjoy reading. Art was great, and contains some amazing splash pages highlighting some of the major events of the Sinister Era. Does not disappoint. #xmen #comics #NCBD

Just finished catching up on the week’s reading, and I’m amused by Spurrier building on the Hickman retcon about the Phalanx and noting that because they exist on an extraphysical plane they spread and infect through multiple modalities including metafiction. It’s just funny and low key horrifying to suggest the Phalanx are not just technological omniphages but memetic ones as well.
