Current state of the #cargoBike "#bagAndDrag" / #bikeTowing setup, if the kids' bike tire wedges into the #xtracycle #edgeRunner cargo rails, you don't need to strap it at the bottom. It's best with 3 good points of contact on the wheel and the fork to be able to pivot. Experimenting on this strut/compression bit: the white PVC won't survive outside, going to be grey, but needs a different arrangement of the strap to draw tight, (and some rubber on the ends?) #bikeTooter #bikeParent #nPlus1

Today I needed to collect some wood from the building market. Not many cars can fit three metre long pieces of wood inside but it's not difficult to ride them onto s bike frame and carry them home that way. The biggest problem was getting on the bike as they were higher than the top tube.

Tonight I looked up options to attach a Burley Piccolo trailerbike to a Surly #BigDummy #CargoBike and couldn't find anything better than the guide I published on my blog, so I cleaned it up and republished it. My DIY solution lasted 10 years until the kids outgrew it.

I did the #TreeByBike thing for the second year in a row on the #xtracycle #cargobike. I had a little trouble with the tree’s tendency to roll sideways last year, so I built a simple cradle out of some reclaimed wood. Worked great—super stable and only needed one cargo strap! Oh, and the tree lot crew loved it! #onelesscar #zeroemissions

10 km round trip at -3 C today for Judy and I this morning to collect a Christmas tree.

We've again bought a tree with roots as the last one lasted us for five years, growing a bit bigger each year in our garden.

On this trip we go out of Assen on cycle-paths through a suburb, then a short stretch along a main road in the countryside before returning alongside a bus road (with car trap) passing new houses under construction. Like most Dutch homes including our own these new houses are built to last, made of steel reinforced concrete (all floors and walls are made of concrete) with an insulation layer between the concrete and a brick shell around the outside.

Looking for build ideas!

I was perusing the "Sale" section on Xtracycle.com last Friday and noticed they were selling something rather unique. They had apparently dug up some "Megaracks" from their basement. There were only a handful available and they were selling them for DIRT cheap. For context, this was a prototype of what eventually became the Leap. (I snagged the attached photo from their website before they sold out and deleted the link.)

On a whim, I snagged two of these Megaracks to play with. While I already have a long tail cargo bike (Xtracycle Edgerunner), along with half a dozen other bikes, I certainly do love to tinker. I figured if I end up not liking them I can resell them (at cost) on Craigslist or donate to a bike Co-Op.

One Megarack will likely go onto a shorty recumbent project that I've been marinating on. The other however... I have some thoughts but I also kind of want some inspiration. Have you dreamed of building something weird/unique with an Xtracycle kit (or similar)? What contraption would you like to see? What would you build? I have an embarrassingly large parts hoard and easy access to more, so that's not an issue.

Delivery run this afternoon. There's a cycle-tunnel under a road on the way into the city. This means cyclists can skip past one of the two sets of traffic lights on the route. Note that though the tunnel is short it's well lit because otherwise it wouldn't feel safe and people would be less likely to cycle.

This morning's bike trip. 10 km with the #xtracycle to connect a water butt, a fence post and a few other small things.

To take parcels to the post office yesterday I used my #xtracycle #cargobike.
This is one of the original xtracycle kits which I bought 20 years ago and installed on an old mountain bike frame. Fabulously useful - it owes me nothing.
The traffic light junction in the background is an interesting design. Those cyclists are not in danger from the cars.
