By the way, this tutorial worked for me under WSL2 to get #Emacs running without blurry fonts on my HDPI display.

... never mind, let's just use something existing ...

Is there an expert on #linux #ubuntu (22.04 Gnome with remote desktop and legacy) #VNC or maybe #XWindow who can tell me why I can't type shifted characters after I log in on VNC? Weirdly I can type shifted characters in the screensaver, but not on the command line or GEdit after login.

If you want to take a #screenshot and your window manager is #xfce4, xfce4-screenshooter is a great tool for you.You can press the "ScrPtr" key when you are ready, Then to choose if you want the entire screen, the active window or a region.
The region you can select after you mark the "select a region" radio button, and click "OK"
The "Delay before capturing" field in useful if you want to open menu before you capture the scree or region.

Ok, we have the Primary Selection buffer, we have the more traditional (to those who didn't grow up with #XWindow) Clipboard, but what the heck is the #Secondary buffer?! (xclip -o -selection secondary)
I'm trying to figure that out, myself.
Sharing this link now, will finish reading it later: http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~lindsec/secondary-selection.html
(see also the explanation he linked on that page: http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~lindsec/secondary.html)
Ok folks, I'm stuck. I'm trying to get an #Xwindow on a remote machine via simply setting the DISPLAY variable:
export DISPLAY=remotehost:0.0
On the remote host, I did "xhost +" allowing all clients to connect. I've also opened firewalls on both systems...not configured, *opened* (all ports/protos).
When I launch 'xterm', I'm still getting the error:
xterm: Xt error: Can't open display: 192.168.1.100:0.0
What did I miss? Did I have a brain fart?
Why does this trick work? I don't fully know. But I use it to recover from lost screens every day (5+ times just today, in fact). https://orys.us/ul #exwm #xwindow
