This probably betrays the old school nature through which I see technology at this point but every time I see the "X" app's notification icon my brain thinks of X Windows. 🤷♀️ #oldschool #unix #xwindows #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing

#x logo, #twitter rebranding.

It bugs me when people say that #Apple #MacOs X gives a good #userInterface or #userExperience (#UI or #UX).
I prefer to have menus that show me keyboard shortcuts for what I want to learn how to do faster, not to have to do a web search every time I want to take a screen shot.
You know what provides a better experience? #xWindows #GNOME (and practically anything that runs on #Linux), and even #MicrosoftWindows 3, 5 (xp), and 7.

OOOOOOO. Netpliance has entered the chat!
I have tossed all of mine, but at one point I had something like 30 of them. I used them for terminals at conventions (bought cheap, hacked the BIOS, put LTSP software on them, instant X terminal!)

Is there a thing that is like tmux for X servers? Like, a tool where you can start a client pointed at the multiplexer and then change where that points to later, or leave the prorgram running on a virtual display?
Probably a virtual framebuffer X server and `xdo` is what I really want I guess.
(I've got a binary that is a GTK+ application with no source and I need to feed it an input file with a mouse, but after that it'll run for several weeks or months.)
"Maximum number of clients reached. Cannot open display :0"
If you use the KDE and for some reason apps don't open (like I for example was unable to run GIMP from Gwenview), try to run a random GUI app from the command line (this obviously only works if you already have a terminal open).
If you see the above error in the terminal, you ran into a bug that has slipped in recent KDE versions.
Issuing a `killall kded5` will resolve the problem.
@murph @Rapture It was a LONG time before I got native Ethernet in my 2000, like within the last 10 years, but the SLIP (later PPP) interface 100% worked well through AmiTCP, it was just slower.
At least I have a Multiface high-speed serial/parallel interface in there, which helped a lot.
When I finally did get an Ethernet card, I just dropped it right into the configuration and it just took over with very little change, except speed.

Amiwin 2.0. X server for Amiga. Installed in the mid 1990s, still working great today.
