Thank you to everyone for taking our COVID-safe policies seriously at #DevWorld + #XWorld! We hugely appreciated it. The policy and your cooperation with it means people who might not feel comfortable or safe going to events anymore could come along, and participate. Thanks to folks for proactively self-monitoring with the RAT tests we provided, too. š
A quick thread based on my #xworld Lightning Talk! Tom's Rules for Talks!
1. Write an outline. Write it out physically on index card, one card per idea. Organize these ideas, then discard the deck and repeat. You'll be left only with the good ideas this time.
2. If you're only reading your slides, you're doing it wrong.
3. If your talk is entirely unrelated to your slides, ibid.
4. Have a laugh line -- at least one.
5. Every talk need a gif slide. It's the law. I don't make the laws.
Lightning talks have covered #ADHD, Rubikās cubes, Lockpicking, why Australia is better than New Zealand (or maybe it was the inverse?), awesome Mac Admin tools, The Blob, Chat GPT, independent iOS apps, home automation with Home Assistant, and āTom (actual Tom)ās rules for talksā! #DevWorld #XWorld
Please keep an eye on the schedule, as thereās been a few tweaks! #DevWorld #XWorld https://admin.auc.edu.au/sessions
I think my biggest takeaway from running a masked #XWorld + #DevWorld event is that if you ask people to wear a mask then, by and large, they will. Itās also good to make a big pile of masks clearly available at (for example) the registration desk, so people donāt have any friction to place their mask if needed. #Events #Conferences #COVIDsafety

Thanks to everyone at #DevWorld + #XWorld for adhering to our COVID-safe plan, we really it! š
For Day 2, please continue to mask indoors, test using the RAT tests, and drop by the rego desk if you need more masks or RAT tests, and let us know if you develop symptoms or a positive result.
As the day wraps on #xworld Day 1, I just want to give some shoutouts for some great talks:
ā¢ Stu Lamont nailed his talk on Jamf Pro data & processing it w/ Data Frames.
ā¢ Lynette Ma reminded us all that there are a ton of resources out there for admins
ā¢ Bart Reardon showed us all that there's an amazing composer for alerts in SwiftDialog
ā¢ James Smith & James Corcoran gave bravura talks on Github Workflows.
There's so much great stuff happening in the Mac Admins community!
@rmondello Iām at #XWorld which is a Mac admin conference this week. Itās mask mandatory inside; had to show proof of vaccination. Some people and orgs are still taking it seriously, thankfully.
I've written out a bunch of today's Keynote at #xworld: https://tombridge.com/2023/03/29/keynote-at-x-world-running-after-the-ice-cream-truck/
Lots of fun to talk about Apple history, as well as the pace of change over time. These cycles of change and adaptation are a big part of our lives as Mac Admins and Developers. This talk is all about the challenges we face, and how we don't buckle under the pressure of the circumstances.
So, someone just asked me (in good faith) if weād still be running #DevWorld+#XWorld in this COVID-safe manner if I hadnāt got a heart condition (from COVID)..
The answer is unequivocally yes. The planning for this started before that, and we wouldnāt be comfortable doing this any other way.
