I would assume that much of the COBOL (and other) code which was fixed to handle Y2K in fact was adjusted to use a sliding 2-digit window, and as such isn't 'fixed', and may still fail horribly in many other situations, including Y2K38.

Seen a few #Y2K38 posts popping up lately, which makes me happy.

Partly because it means it's still on someone's radar.

Partly because now is an excellent time to be planning for it.

But mostly because it's my retirement plan. At least this time around, the code archaeology will involve less COBOL.

Well, Y2K problems did normally not manifest 15 years in advance (although I can imagine some mortgage software starting to fail in 1985 for a 15 year period)…

@ilona_schmidt @wrzlbrnft Natürlich ist das Smartphone nicht das Problem. Das #y2k38 auf 64-bit Systemen kein Problem ist, ist jedoch ein Mythos. So wie noch einige Halbwahrheiten in diesem ORF Bericht wiederholt werden: #y2k war eine Lachnummer, IT-ler werden das Problem schon lösen usw. Wir bleiben jedenfalls dran.
