Finished making a stand for the #ft857 remote head. You can find the bracket and hinged mount on #thingiverse, they print quickly. I glued the stand on a piece of thin wood that I spray painted with acrylic. #hamradio #shortwave #radio #yaesu

Just bought a #digirig with my #yaesu ft857 #hamradio. Trying to connect using a MacBook Pro. I've managed to get CAT control with both #flrig and #wsjtx. FT-8 audio seems to work for decoding, but nothing is transmitting.
Any ideas on what to try? Online documentation seems to all be about Windows.

Was in the market for a dual band UHF/VHF base station #HamRadio to match my Arrow dual band J-pole antenna. No good offers at hamfest, so I looked online. Finally decided to forego high power rigs (I'll be talking through repeaters) and pricey big names like #Icom and #Yaesu and went for the AnyTone AT-778UV. Well reviewed and best value I can find for around $100!
Anyone with #DigiRig experience want to help me diagnose a weird issue I'm seeing?
I'm trying to hook it up to my #Yaesu #FT70 with the cable directly from DigiRig.
When I try to send packets from direwolf, the PTT keys (yay!) for a split second (boo) before just cutting off, and nothing is heard over RF.
Out of curiosity, I tried using the stock BTECH #APRS cable with the UV5R, and that also doesn't appear to work, though that could easily be the cable.

I just learned this, so, in case anyone else needs to know:
A #Yaesu #FT70DR can be powered by its charger as long as you don’t have the battery in.
My #YSF #PiStar is going to see a lot more use now that I don’t have to remember to keep my HT charged.
This is also going to make the #digirig I just ordered a lot more useful. I can put off buying a mobile radio that much longer now :D
Now to hack together a car 12V wire. . .

Who designs these crappy connectors? Would it kill a TRRS plug manufacturer to put bloody solder tags on their connectors?
What possessed #Yaesu to choose this abomination of a connector on the VX-3 and FT-5?! Adafruit sells a pre-soldered straight TRRS pigtail, and you can buy straight TRRSs with solder tags… but the right-angle is almost as much of a unicorn as the threaded abomination that the VX-6/VX-7 and Alinco DJG7T uses.
Check out the soldering job. Weller WE1010 with a knife tip and 270°C, lead-free solder. Ugly as sin, but seems to be making contact. #AmateurRadio #Electronics

Charging a #Yaesu HT on the go got quite simple with a usb-c power bank or a phone charger and this smal Power Delivery (PD) adapter. So I'll never need carrying the bulky charger with me again😃
Someone is selling an FT-23R on ebay. This was the first radio I ever had in late 90s.
Once a taxi ran it over. It didn't even manage to scratch the case, proper metal frame. Battery box was slightly cracked.
Absolutely solid radios.
Also looked like a policeman's radio so I used to get a lot of wary eyes as I wandered around mid-town Ankara...
Chilling on my balcony, have made a long cable for my #yaesu #ft857 remote head so I can listen comfortably to #shortwave. #swl #hamradio

Made a long cable for the remote head of my #yaesu #ft857d. I still had two 6 pole RJ connectors and crimped them on some meters of old #cat5 network cable.
Because the cable also carries the speaker audio you can connect a speaker to the remote head, no additional wiring needed 🙂 #hamradio

Any reason for banana over something like Anderson Powerpoles? I'd worry about banana plugs taking a compression over time and being malformed

Inferring from the tech specs of the FT70D it seems it's 20K0 F3E vs 11K2 F3E (?)
So 20 KHz +/- 5 kHz vs. 11.25 KHz +/- 2.5 KHz. It seems the split between the two is for above / below 50 MHz via this source: https://www.fmuser.net/content/?1989.html
It's so weird that the default setting on the FT70D would then be for wide. It might explain why people tell me my voice is faint in spite of good signal (either that or I need to turn up mic gain).
