It's no secret that salmon are central to theh cultures of many Native nations in the Pacific Northwest, but outsiders don't really understand what that means. This piece by Native journalist 'Toastie' Oaster uses the words and photography of Yakama tribal member Lew George to open a little window on a life spent fishing for salmon on the Columbia River.
