@isaiah @lime_green_gnome It cuts very thin slices of tissue to be examined on a microscope--useful in a subdiscipline called histology. It uses a vibrating blade to cut through the tissue (usually embeded in something like parafin to stabilize it). Another type of slicer, called a microtome is also used. For example, this is a slice of a velvet worm (from YPM IZ).

I've signed up for a course for the new year with the Natural Science Illustration program: NSI 106X: Sumi-e-Inspired Watercolor. I've done several of their courses, but not for several years (pre-pandemic). This fern was something I did for a watercolor course. I'll post here and on my pixelfed account.
