It’s been a good 12 months for #vinyl boxsets - this super deluxe edition of #YankeeHotelFoxtrot by #Wilco is one of my favourites. This is how boxsets should be done: interesting & well curated rarities galore, well mastered, & well pressed, with a high quality book providing context.

I’m #NowListening to outtakes & earlier assemblages of songs - it’s proper topnotch stuff & listenable in its own right - Venus Stopped the Train being one of many highlights.

This, not #YankeeHotelFoxtrot, was my entry point &, like #PetSounds, delicate melody, complex arrangements hide a deeper melancholy: #ShesAJar, #ViaChicago, & the perfect #HowToFightLoneliness meld pain with beauty.

This is the is the 2020 reissue from the deluxe set. I prefer this to my OG - there is greater clarity & space. On #ShotInTheArm, for example, the soundstage is cavernous.

#Listening to the remastered #YankeeHotelFoxtrot by #Wilco alongside the OG EU pressing & it really isn’t night and day. The reissue sounds a bit more open, with a little more instrument separation, but both are top notch.

The reissue is part of the phenomenal Super Deluxe boxset which contains multiple versions of the album giving proper insight into the creative process.

And, yep, I’ve got two: a busted up listening copy & the limited silver set.
