Ok the winner is 5.0 mm (US size 8), which gives a solid gauge of 5 sts/in & a nice classic sweatery fabric. The yarn, btw, is a 100% merino worsted 2-ply (Swish from KnitPicks), bought bare & hand-dyed with acid dyes in my mad scientist lab (aka kitchen). #knitting #YarnDyeing

Today I learnt how to dye yarn with food colouring. It was surprisingly straight forward, and definitely something I can do at home. My yarns in the third pic are the blue/white one, the white green and brown next to that, and the lavender and pale red skeins. #yarndyeing
