It’s the last round of the footy season this weekend, so it’s your final chance to catch an extra footy tram for 2023. It’s been a long season, so we’re really looking forward to having a quiet September, with no major events happening at all in Melbourne. #YarraTrams
Throwback Thursday: Z.26 in 1978 at the Warrigal Rd terminus during construction of what would become the Vermont South extension. These days we wouldn’t run trams in a works zone, or do line extensions, for OH&S or something reasons of course. #YarraTrams 📸 Colin Hirst
Our July performance results are yet to arrive. The person bringing them is stuck on a tram, that’s behind a car making a right hand turn from the tram only lane. It’s been two weeks now, and when dinged, the driver just shouted “What’s you’re problem, I’m turning!” #YarraTrams
Tram Cops today are targeting anyone who is eating on a tram, and didn’t bring enough for everyone. It’s only fair that you share, and remember to cater for everyone’s food allergies too. #YarraTrams
Congratulations to Spain for winning the World Cup. To celebrate your victory all tram services will be delayed this afternoon while we have a siesta. Most passengers won’t notice the delay compared to our usual operations. #YarraTrams
Extra Footy Trams tonight will operate via the MCG on their way to Docklands. This is so Collingwood fans can see how close the grounds are to each other, so it really is possible to travel there at least once a year, without having a hissy fit. #YarraTrams
Throwback Thursday: 11W ‘scrubber’ car, used until 2002. Also known as Sydney K class passenger car 797, and then scrubber 139s. Sold to Melbourne in 1959, then sent back to Sydney Tramway Museum, because Sydney doesn’t have real trams anymore, only “Light Rail”. #YarraTrams
Work on the next tram route extension is going well. We’ve managed now to delay the process for a record amount of time, a major milestone. We look forward to continuing to be able to deliver such a high level of nothing for many years to come. #YarraTrams
Tram Cops today are targeting anyone who is gloating about having just had a holiday in Bali. We get it, you don’t like winter and think that a Bintang singlet is the height of fashion. Instead of being fined you’ll be deported to Perth where you’ll fit right in. #YarraTrams
With #RSW2023 all done, now it’s time for Rail Unsafe Week.
There are no rules, trams can use any weapons they want, the last tram standing at the end wins. Passengers are advised to wear body armour, and prepare for battle. #YarraTrams
As we close out #RSW2023, and once again remind you to be safe around trams and trains, we’ll also remind you that people drive them. So when you be in idiot and do the wrong thing, you’re also affecting their life too. So don’t ruin their day by being a drongo. #YarraTrams
Children of all ages love trams and trains, but like to be right in the action and excitement. They’ll have good memories if they stand back and hold your hand. You’ll have bad memories if they get too close and can never hold your hand again. #YarraTrams #RSW2023
The majority of the #YarraTrams network is shared with other road users, many of whom think they’re the only road users. These people are easy to spot, they’re the ones with a large tram sized dent in the side of their car, after trying to do a u-turn in front of a tram. #RSW2023
When waiting for a tram, remember to stand behind the line, or away from the kerb, and to keep the doorways clear for people exiting. Not only is it safer for everyone, but you’ll actually have a quicker journey, something you’d never expect from us. #YarraTrams #RSW2023
Welcome to Rail Safety Week 2023. This week we’d like to remind you that we have to keep reminding you year after year to be safe around trams and trains. But no, you think you’re too important, that you have things to do, places to be. Safety is for everyone else. #YarraTrams
Construction of the new Maidstone depot is going well. We’ve so far managed to buy back most of the things stolen from the site off passengers on Route 82, at fairly reasonable prices too. It’s the circle of life, or rather lowlife, that’s typical in the west. #YarraTrams
Throwback Thursday: Tickets please!
Back in the old days we had paper tickets, Zone 3, and scratch tickets. These days we’ve done away with all of those things, and have replaced them with fare evasion. Images stolen from the web, just like how you lot steal #YarraTrams revenue.
At #YarraTrams we have had some complaints about the facts in this pamphlet, so here’s the truth:
1. 450 stops are accessible, the rest are ignored.
2. It’s 1,400 managers for the 1,200 drivers.
3. 200+ million complaints, not services per day.
Tram Cops today are targeting anyone who is only on a tram because they couldn’t find their car keys. You won’t be fined, they’ll just repeatedly ask you “Have you checked behind the couch?” until you leave the tram. #YarraTrams
Congratulations to Sonia Kruger for winning the 2023 Gold Logie. As part of your win, and fitting for the prestige of the award, you now get free travel on the City Circle tram until the end of the month. #YarraTrams
