My old home #PC #Server finally died after several years. I used it with #openSUSE Leap (server setup). I received my new Cirrus 7 Nimbus and again installed openSUSE Leap.

Ok, this is not my favorite #Linux #Distribution but I need it to be openSUSE.

The setup is complete crap! Once it runs, it runs fine and is rock solid, but repo packages are hopelessly out of date. And setting it up is the worst thing ever. I hate #Yast! 😞

Like with my experience with Leap, I feel like the #YaST control panel is a bit clunky, and my experience setting up my HP printer hasn't changed unfortunately, I had to disable my firewall to set it up (do not do this) and reenable it afterwards. I think this is the problem you ran into, @thelinuxEXP, if I am not mistaken.

@passthejoe Also as much as people may dislike #YaST, it's a generally good tool and the fact that it runs both #CLI and #GUI is excellent.

In fact, it's why I started #Linux on @opensuse 10.2 with KDE 3.5.x back in the day...

i've seen a lot of mentions of #OpenSUSE lately.. ..last night i spun up a #tumbleweed VM with #xfce 4.18.. ..seems like people either love or hate #yast, but i think it's super-cool they include that.. ..nice it's there if you need/want it

Had to launch a fresh install of a distro on a quasi-old laptop. Bonus: a bad Internet connection. Remembering an old chat with @opensuse and @theDoctor I turned to openSuse. Network image installation was ok and spared me almost 2 GB. YaST is still a boon. A lot of old memories (SuSE was one of my first distros). Still not convinced about KDE, tho.

One of my favorite things about #OpenSUSE is the #YaST setup tool. Specifically, the console version, with its user-friendly curses-based menus, makes configuration and software installation on a remote, ssh-accessed server just as pleasant as on a local, GUI-equipped workstation.

I really want something similar for the #Debian world. Unfortunately, the only menu-based console app for software management that I know of is aptitude, which is a user-experience hellscape IMO. Are there others?

@delevely I'm surprised there's not more #openSUSE love. I've used #Tumbleweed (rolling distro) for years. I moved from #Fedora to openSUSE when #Novell made it the primary platform for Mono (opensource C#).

Always up-to-date. Official #NVidia driver builds. #Btrfs snapshots of your root partition if things go wrong. And so many apps available on software.opensuse.org.

#YaST control panel is awesome and powerful. Plus, none of this horrible .deb nonsense where it can half-install stuff!
