That's a wrap on #yearofevidence! I enjoyed being part of it. Apologies for impromptu live tweeting. Wanted to try and capture this moment of harnessing data for the social good. Special thanks to @WhiteHouse @pewresearch @DMaxCrowley @MDonovan12 @Evidence2Impact

Good to be at #yearofevidence forum today! @DMaxCrowley states tho this is last forum, “it’s not the end, but new opportunities for science in society.”

.@JenniferYVerma highlights that evidence support-systems are focused on contextualizing the stock of existing evidence – both domestic evidence (in its many forms) and global evidence – for a given decision in an equity-sensitive way.

Responding to decision-makers’ questions requires the right mix of forms of evidence, says @JenniferYVerma.
For example, while data analytics can shed light on the magnitude of a problem, qualitative insights can tell us what citizens are willing to do about it

Lots of shout outs for boundary spanners, intermediaries, mobilizers here at the final evidence forum for the #YearOfEvidence. So much good work over the years to build awareness of and legitimacy for us in-between experts, so good to see a big step up in awareness!

The @WhiteHouse #YearOfEvidence event exploring the state of research & evidence in government settings is starting soon. Excited to hear from great speakers, including @JenniferYVerma @povertyscholar @DrLauraJana @Phil_Gaskin @mattsoldner @lauren_supplee http://ow.ly/obTo50MZxBu
We don't have a mechanism to support those relationships bc we dont resource it. Mobilizers, bridge spanners, boundary spanners are very sparse as a result. Evidence ecosystem glue is relationships. Need to formalize connections systematically. @DMaxCrowley #yearofevidence
You can't build community relationships with instrumental expectations of what you get out of it. It can take 1.5 years to launch something with an academic deliverable which is not feasible pre tenure w current incentives. @povertyscholar #yearofevidence
Researchers need to build relationships w policymakers but how? They're building their careers! They need to connect via intermediaries. @lauren_supplee #yearofevidence
Adam Levine of @r4impact asks a big question: how do we ensure we account for the time it takes to build evidence partnerships? #yearofevidence
RT @NickRHart
First Gentleman says we need “everyone on deck” moving forward in building the evidence ecosystem at the final #YearofEvidence event. Proud the @data_foundation could play a part in the series in partnership with the @WhiteHouse @WHOSTP45 & @OMBPress. https://www.whitehouse.gov/ostp/events-webinars/year-of-evidence-for-action/

Research traditionally looks back - eg successful entrepreneurs. Need to look forward to get a full picture of those trying and left out. We must listen to what communities need and make system changes.

Raises the need to enrich the evidence ecosystem w greater inclusion. Qualitative research helps us understand experiences of inequity. A range of voices from communities can be transformative in methods & findings

As the largest STEM graduate producer in the country, we can think ab what it means to make a difference. What will higher ed do going forward, esp land grant universities. We have to do more.
