I dont want to have the #yearofthelinuxdesktop , I want the ads and viruses to stay on Windows.

Oh. That's not... Good.
I guess 2023 ISN'T the #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2023/09/ubuntu-23-10-minimal-mistake
#Linux has nearly half of the desktop OS Linux market
Linux is now a little more than three 3% of the desktop OS market, excluding the just over 4% that is #ChromeOS. Which is also Linux, but the wrong kind of Linux.
It would be twice as much if people could stop arguing about who counts and who doesn't https://www.theregister.com/2023/07/18/linux_desktop_debate/ #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop

I find it baffling that Ubuntu ships a desktop that covers all the windows with the dock after any suspend cycle, for multiple iterations, and has not done something to avoid the problem.
Either drop the dock or fish the crazy thing. It's just baffling.
I've been avoiding Linux desktop for years, due to things like this making the cut year after year.

I know it's community driven but someone makes the call "ship it". Are they using this thing at all?

Linux could be 3% of global desktops. What happened to Windows? - How can you argue against these numbers? (credit: 20th Century Fox / Au... - https://arstechnica.com/?p=1953373 #desktopoperatingsystem #yearofthelinuxdesktop #operatingsystems #statcounter #windows #bizβ’ #linux #macos #tech

I never "restart my computer to complete updates". I just wait until it inevitably fails to resume from suspend, and install the updates then. #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop
My 12 year old iMac and MacBook Air now have an OS so old that both Chrome and Apple are no longer supporting it. So I guess this is the #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop. What's the easiest #Linux distro for a basic development/web machine (Docker, browser, Dropbox, etc)?
@neil @liw i know this is basically necroposting, but bruh, same. 25th year of exclusive linux desktop use, and hearing that there's no such thing! #yearofthelinuxdesktop
#fediverse #linux #tip For folks that have embraced the #yearofthelinuxdesktop and, like me, are addicted to booklet printing *anything* that needs to be printed, you might have been disappointed to find pretty lackluster support for printing booklets on 'nix.
What you're looking for is 'Boomaga'. I stumbled upon this in a comment in a thread from a decade ago and have no idea why it isn't more widely recommended. It's great.

2023 is the #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop, wherein my linux desktop has at least (3) browser engines always running at the same time.
1. Firefox with 3000 open tabs because I am extremely organized
2. Chromium with social media app(s)
3. Geary for email and (gnome-)Feeds for RSS, both of which embed a fork of WebKit for rendering stuff
That's not even considering gnome-shell, which embeds a javascript interpreter.
Cool to see that Automattic is co-authoring the ActivityPub plugin for #wordpress

It will sooner be #YearOfTheFediverse than #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop

What's that slot on my calendar? Oh I'm planning to reboot my computer, so I need some prep time, before and after to-do lists, and contingency plans. #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop
I've been using linux on my personal computer at home for over two years now. Ask me anything :D.
And this is in the midst of trying to fix the fact that closing the lid no longer triggers sleep
Which led to a discovery of a upower bug
But my system isn't new enough to have the buggy upower version
Because I'm somehow TWO versions of Fedora behind (I had no idea they update every 6 months) Fedora apparently doesn't notify you like Ubuntu does
And updating to 37 from the UI doesn't work
So now I'm doing it from the CLI
Someone remind me why I'm not just running Windows on this thing?

It seems that I have chosen which Linux distro I will use all this year. The basis will be Debian 11.
I also installed i3-gaps and Picom, Pywal.
Looks like candy π

The birth of this kind of applications for #gnulinux is the sign that it really becoming an actually used #desktop #operatingsystem. Is the #yearofthelinuxdesktop actually and finally coming? π

Dieses Jahr ist wieder mal #yearofthelinuxdesktop. So wie jedes Jahr seit Jahrzehnten.
Oder erst nΓ€chstes Jahr?
