Cindy finds the class commentary to be lacking, which I agree with, but while she sees it as a blind spot, I interpreted it as something the MC was uncomfortably right about, which complicated the overall race narrative for me. Idk what do other people think?

Recently I read Yellowface by Rebecca Kuang. It’s an amazing tale of a person who finds herself digging herself into a deeper and deeper terrible hole, while managing to continue inspiring sympathy. Kuang has rapidly become one of my favourite authors, and I can imagine this being a book I reread over the years and appreciate more and more each time.

Very excited to be starting off a week of annual leave with #Yellowface by #rfkuang. I loved #Babel (a critique of academia and capitalism combined with a magic system based on language and translation: all very much up my street!) so I have high hopes for this.
