There's nothing like first of the month budgeting and reconciling in #ynab. I do not have my shit together in most areas of my life but YNAB is the only budget I've ever been able to stick with and that's a pretty great feeling.
I've always been an avid budgeter. As a data person, my early days were spent making my own #budget in MS #Excel or Google Sheets.
However, over the last 3+ years I've been using "You Need A Budget" and have loved it! It strikes an excellent balance between easy to use, customizable, and spouse approved while still retaining that "fun" factor I always have when budgeting and setting goals.
Check it out here if you're interested!
I was unaware of #iOS17 having a transaction automation (triggers when you pay with Apple Pay and provides infos).
Having spent quite some time with #YNAB & #Splitwise related shortcuts (https://routinehub.co/user/fer0n) and using both heavily that makes me super excited! Jumping on the beta now.
@mossfet @elilla #YNAB is a budgeting program.
The acronym stands for You Need A Budget.
the concepts behind it are:
You budget money you received (not what you expect to recover)
Know what your expected expenses are (short term and long term)
Modify the budget when and if the situation calls for it
The program does all that, but as described above it *can* be done manually

Made a little #ynab iOS shortcut that lets you import bank account transactions directly. You can also add transactions via Siri:

@toensberger Wollte mich hier kurz bedanken. Danke!
Ugh #Mint stopped syncing with my PayPal card. Was going to use this as an excuse to finally ditch Mint, #PersonalCapital looks like it’s improved and I was even willing to potentially pay for #YNAB. But now PayPal won’t sync with PC either, so maybe it’s their issue?? If so, that’s unacceptable, I need budget software and there’s no way I’m gonna manually enter all my transactions on my main card 😤
Daily Notes for 2023-05-04
Better task-switching with Charmstone, vim for zsh, our neighborhood slumlords, and the helpfulness of YNAB.

I kinda like the start of the month financial activities: updating & funding my budget (#YNAB !), requesting my credit card cash back, and all of the first of the month transactions.
I know, I'm one of those people.
today I'm thinking about #PersonalFinance #software. I've been using #YNAB for a number of years but I'm not a huge fan of zero-based #budgeting, at least not on a monthly basis. Curious what others are using for #financialsoftware
Ideally #OpenSource (free as in speech, not necessarily as in beer), if it is able to pull transactions automatically from banking sites that is ideal - but I'll do manual exports if need be. 🙂

Oops. Spouse may be cancelling the Nevada trip.
That's okay, if she does cancel, I can keep part of the cash I planned for the 'travel' category in there (I wasn't saving enough, really), and the rest can go in the 'car down payment' category.
Really impressed by #YNAB software, even more by their marketing strategy. I’m no market guy, but their “relatable” strategy works really well for the average person like me. I’m addition, they have a huge amount of content to explain every detail of the software and the mantra, which makes you stick with them even more
